2024 Jazz Club of Lafayette Fundraiser Continues
From The Jazz Club of Lafayette’s President Scott Pazera:
As our organization has moved away from a membership-based model, we are hoping to reach out to the community for continued support to bring jazz programming to the entire community. From now through the end of April, we will continue to re-establish our relationships with previous members to ask for support in the 2024-5 season. We are also hoping to establish new relationships with individuals, small businesses, and corporations who may be interested in supporting our mission in their communities.
2024-25 Season Budget Objectives
The 2024 fundraising and sponsorship drive reflects our club’s mission to fund free public jazz performances and jazz-focused educational initiatives. To cover the costs of April and October Jam Sessions, three Fall-Winter Concert Series events, and funding for continuing education in our schools and other public spaces, we have established an annual budget goal of $10,000. We hope to achieve this goal through organizational/business sponsorships and individual donations. We are looking for 10 organizations that can sponsor between $500 and $1,000 each, and 100 individuals who can donate at levels between $25 and $50 each for this year. We’d love your support for the Jazz Club and look forward to seeing you at our events. Donations can be mailed to: The Jazz Club, 638 North St., Lafayette, IN 47901. If you’d prefer to offer your contribution online you can do so via our PayPal account accessible here. Your tax-deductible donations can also be made in person at our events.
Please consider what you can do to help our club continue Jazz-focused entertainment and education. If you know of potential sponsorship opportunities or have questions about our fundraising efforts, please reach out to us via email. Looking forward to seeing you at The Knickerbocker in April!

Friday, November 10, 2023, 7:00 pm at TAF: La Jarana Jazz-Percussion Ensemble
The Jazz Club of Lafayette is excited to welcome La Jarana, an extraordinary ensemble of percussion-forward Uruguayan musicians, to Lafayette, Indiana on Friday, November 10 at the The Arts Federation (TAF) Main Hall. This concert is free to the public and general seating is available to all. The Arts Federation address is 638 North St, Lafayette, IN 47901.
La Jarana is a contemporary jazz-percussion ensemble with a unique instrumental lineup: vibraphone, electric bass, saxophone, and the “murga” percussion set. The murga set is the percussion foundation of Uruguay’s most popular polyphonic choral genre, also called “the murga.” It consists of three instruments: a bass drum, cymbals, and a snare drum, each played by a different percussionist. The ensemble fuses the rhythmic and tonal language of Uruguayan murga percussion with other genres and musical languages, such as Jazz, Tango, Brazilian, Cuban, and Argentinian folk music. Their pieces acquire a unique color when interpreted through this instrumental combination; melodies and solos are articulated through elaborate harmonic and rhythmic arrangements. The ensemble’s repertoire is extremely varied, encompassing both traditional “music of the Americas” and their own compositions.
La Jarana is featured at the Percussive Arts Society International’s 2023 Convention, held in Indianapolis November 8 through 11, 2023. The group has also performed at some of the most prestigious festivals in South America, including Jazz a la Calle, the Montevideo Percussion Festival, the First Montevideo Vibraphonist Meeting, and the Tucumán Jazz Festival (Argentina).
La Jarana has conducted workshops and clinics where band members share knowledge of the rhythmic, timbral, and melodic language of the their instruments. Workshop attendees are often invited to experience La Jarana’s unique way of playing the cymbals, snare drum, and bass drum, to facilitate a deeper understanding of and appreciation for Montevideo’s native rhythms.
This will be an extraordinary, content-rich musical event, and we hope you’ll attend! The Jazz Club of Lafayette is grateful to our sponsors for their financial commitment to bringing live Jazz performances to Lafayette, Indiana. Join us November 10, 2023 at 7:00 pm at TAF!
